Undefeated Voyageurs host Barons, Royals win by forfeit, Lions get the bye

Bonnyville Voyageurs will host the Lloydminster Composite Barons in Week 5 of the Wheatland Football League season.

The Voyageurs are coming off an emotional 14-13 victory at the Scott MacDonald Memorial against a Tier I outfit from Fort McMurray.

In league play, Bonnyville is undefeated at 3-0 and face the league’s highest-scoring offence in the Barons, off to a 3-1 start to their season.

The Barons defeated the Cold Lake Royals 53-12 last weekend.

Kickoff at Walsh Field is at 6pm.

Meanwhile, the Scott MacDonald Memorial saw Bonnyville Amateur Football Association raise over $15,000 towards care packages for young cancer sufferers last weekend and several football players shave their locks or dye their hair pink for the cause.

Royals game cancelled, T-Birds forfeit

The Cold Lake Royals will have one fewer home game this season.

Friday’s opponent in the Westlock T-Birds have forfeited the game citing injuries and low roster numbers, said Royals head coach Kelly Johnson.

Johnson said the team is disappointed at missing a game.

“It’s kind of tough on us because we’re hoping to actually get a real win, not just a forfeit win. We were coming in jacked up for those guys because we’re kind of rebuilding and hoping that would be a good confidence booster for us,” said Johnson.

The Royals record improves to 1-3 on the season.

St. Paul Lions on bye

The St. Paul Lions will get a break this week.

After a tight 15-7 loss to the Holy Rosary Raiders, the Lions will get a week of rest from game action in league play.

The Lions currently sit at 2-2.

Next week, St. Paul will go to Wainwright to take on the Commandos before going on the road again to Lloydminster to face the Lloydminster Comp Barons in Week 7.
