St. Paul selected for rural crime townhall with Minister of Justice

Minister of Justice Doug Schweitzer

The Minister of Justice will be visiting the Lakeland as more communities have been added on the rural crime talk tour.

Minister Doug Schweitzer will be at a townhall in St. Paul on Tuesday, Oct. 29.

Bonnyville-Cold Lake-St. Paul MLA David Hanson had guaranteed two weeks ago the Lakeland would get a townhall.

He said he’s working to book another spot in the Lakeland, likely Cold Lake or Bonnyville, on the Minister’s tour.

“We’re working on trying to get recognition for area and rural crime is a big part of what we live through every day,” said Hanson.

“I am working on getting a couple of but I can’t guarantee it. But I will guarantee that I’m working on it.”

The initial run of tour stops for the Minister did not include any Lakeland visits.

St. Paul is one of eight communities added to the list to gain more public input on the issue of rural crime.

“I am thankful for everyone who has participated in our townhalls and meetings,” said Minister Doug Schweitzer in a press release.

“Your input is essential in helping our government create safer and more secure communities. While we are adding more opportunities across the province, we understand it will not be possible for everyone to participate in person. I encourage those who are unable to attend to complete the survey so your voice is heard.”

The province has put together a survey to gain more public feedback from residents without rural crime townhalls nearby.

The survey ends Oct. 31.
