The Bonnyville RCMP are thanking everyone who attended the Fallen Four fundraiser barbeque on Friday, as they were able to raise $5600 for the memorial fund.

The June 21st barbecue, garage sale and bake sale hosted by the Bonnyville RCMP and Victim Services Unit donated all proceeds to the Fallen Four Memorial Society.

Bonnyville RCMP Detachment Commander Sarah Parke was overwhelmed by the generosity of the community.

“We are excited to announce that we raised over $5600 for the Fallen Four Memorial Society and we couldn’t have done it without the hundreds of people that attended the event and donated so generously. We would also like to thank CNRL for their time and contribution to the event which helped make it a success.”

The Fallen Four Memorial Society maintains the Fallen Four Memorial Park in Mayerthorpe in memory of the four RCMP constables that were shot and killed on March 3, 2005.

The memorial site is in desperate need of repairs and with limited fundraising avenues in recent years, the Bonnyville RCMP took up the initative.

Repairs will be done on the plinths that support the statue at the memorial site, which in total costs $17,000 to fix.
