Four vehicle collision claims the life of a 66 year old female
A 66 year old female has died following a four vehicle collision outside of Lac La Biche. Preliminary investigation into the crash has RCMP believing the car she was traveling in attempted crossed the highway and was struck.
On Wednesday morning, at approximately 11:00 a.m., Lac La Biche RCMP responded to a four vehicle collision on Highway 36 south of Highway 55.
Preliminary investigation indicates a car was travelling southbound on Highway 36 and crossed into on coming traffic heading northbound. Three northbound vehicles (car, truck, transport truck) were damaged as a result of the collision.
Tragically, the lone 66-year-old female occupant of the southbound car was transported to hospital with serious injuries and was later pronounced deceased.
The adult male drivers of both the truck and transport truck were not injured.
The northbound car had four adult male occupants. One was not injured. Two were transferred by EMS to a local hospital and the fourth male was flown via STARS to Edmonton. All three had serious but non-life threatening injuries.
Lac La Biche RCMP and a RCMP Collision Analyst continue to investigate. Traffic was diverted for approximately four hours. Charges are not being considered in this collision and no further updates are anticipated.
“Our thoughts are with the family of the deceased at this time,” said a RCMP spokesperson. The name of the deceased will not be released.
