On February 3rd, at 6:50 am, Cold Lake RCMP received a call of a stolen Dodge Ram truck from the Western Budget Motel on 50th street. The truck was left running, with a full tank of gas, when it was stolen. S/Sgt. Jeremie Landry, with the Cold Lake Detachment says the RCMP were able to quickly determine who the male responsible was. The vehicle was later recovered after a rollover.

“On thing that was great assistance to us was the fresh sign of footprints to and from the truck,” S/Sgt. Landry explains the RCMP were able to use the footprints to track the suspect, “we were able to follow those footprints to neighbouring businesses and get video surveillance footage. We were able to identify the person responsible, very quickly.” S/Sgt. Landry adds, “that’s why we love video surveillance.”

That same day, at 8:20 am, the stolen truck ended up on its roof after rolling over into a ditch on Cold Lake First Nations. Nobody was inside the vehicle when RCMP arrived, however there were footprints. “RCMP attended, followed the footprints and located the driver,” confirms S/Sgt. Landry. The male was not injured.

A 21 year old male, from Cold Lake First Nations was arrested and has charges pending of theft of a truck, valued at over $5,000. The man will appear in Cold Lake Provincial Court on March 14th at 10:00 am.
