Operation Red Nose Volunteers Needed
Operation Red Nose Cold Lake has put a plea out to the public asking for volunteers to help get people hpme safely this NewYears.
“We know it’s a lot to ask, we greatly appreciate our volunteers taking time to help others and their community on this very important night,” says Dave Zimmerman, with Victim Services. The organization oversees the annual Operation Red Nose campaign.
The sober driver service provides safe rides home for the public and their vehicles. The service helps deter impaired driving by providing rides free of charge. Last year, Operation Red Nose provided over 250 safe rides home.
The service needs three volunteers per ride. Two volunteers drive with the owner of the car in their vehicle, while a third volunteer follows in another vehicle to pick up the first two volunteers.
“Every single car we drive home potentially saves an impaired driver from getting behind the wheel,” Zimmerman explains the service has helped countless people.
If you are able to be a volunteer for December 31st, please attend the Cold Lake RCMP detachment and fill out your application form, it only takes 5 minutes. Or, if you are interested in volunteering, but are not sure, please send us a message on Facebook and we will walk you through the process, or call 780-812-5880.
Come alone, or bring two other friends along and work as a group of 3 with people you already know and are comfortable with. Or bring just one friend and be paired up with another experienced Rednoser!
