We are the Champions, my friends.

Tales from the Doug Out: August 1st, 2017

Statistics don’t lie….the Elk Point Sox have put together some pretty good records when it comes to playing in provincials. Last year we won the gold in the bantam tier 5, two years before that we won the silver in peewee tier 4 and a gold the year before that in peewee tier 5. Back a  few years before that we have two midget golds in tier 2 and two midget silver in tier 1. This year the Sox hosted the bantam and mosquitoes provincial finals and both teams won a medal.
Three days five games for the Bantam Sox the AA tier 5 provincial gold medal champions. Three days and four games for the Mosquitoes Sox and they came up with the provincial silver medal in the AA tier 5 division. How sweet it? Winning at home is the icing on the cake.
The Bantams had so many great plays and so many big hits. So, how are we going to mention them all?  Here’s just a few. A very fine performance by the tournament MVP pitcher Cody  “the Babe” Fairbairn, who pitched the complete final game and was lights out allowing only 3 runs. The Sox scoring 4 against the Chestermere Crushers ace to win it all.  Dalton “007” Reed also did an awesome job pitching in the round robin portion getting a big win against Chestermere, as did “Hammering Hank” Rogal in the first game against Ft. Sask and Colton “Colt 45” Van Maarion against Camrose.
It was very special and the first time that any Elk Point mosquitoes team has won a provincial medal. Pitcher Sam “the Spiderman” Rogal winning the first game over South Jasper Place, then Vaughn “the Vulture” Ockerman pitching against the Strathmore Reds losing 11 to 9., but still close enough to get first place in their pool and into the semi final game against Barrhead.
Ryker Neimer pitching for the win in the semi sending it to the finals, where the “Mighty Casey” Warawa would start, Koltin Davis finishing the Sox coming up just a little short winning the silver medal.
A big thanks going out to everyone who helped in any way and they are lots of them, concession workers, grounds crew, score keepers, pitch counters, announcers, coaches and players and parents. A special thanks to minor ball president Dennell Anderson, our treasurer Margaret Bayduza, and head scorekeeper Breenane Greening for doing all the communications, collections  and recording all the important documents that are required for tie breakers etc.

Kaiden Evans Anderson MVP

And over in St. Paul on the weekend playing in the AA midget tier 3 tournament the Bonnyville Braves with two Elk Point players , Kaiden “K Rock” Evans Anderson and Brayden “Magnet” Fairbairn won a gold medal. “K Rock” was also named the MVP of the tournament for his outstanding plays in the infield. Also playing ion the same tournament for the Marwayne Huskies, Austin “Captain Obvious” Stafford won a game MVP for his terrific performance on the pitching and at the plate where he drove in the winning run in the bottom of the 7th.

And now for the K.A. Campbell quote of the week. ” Concentrate all your thoughts on the task at hand. The suns ray do not burn until brought to a focus. -Alexander Graham Bell
