Lakeland Heat Get Sweet Revenge on Sherwood Park Titans
Last time out things got away from the Lakeland Heat. The Sherwood Park Titans took the game to overtime and sealed the victory on a short-handed goal. This time the script was one hundred times different. The Junior B Heat walked away with a 14-8 victory over the Titans on June 18. The game was the Heat’s second in two days. Strong first puts Heat on track
For the second game in a row, Cole Kulczycki netted the opening goal of the game for the Heat. The offense struck twice more in the span of 29 seconds. Brae Howatt and Blake Smith scored the other two goals. As the first half of the period neared completion, Donovan Bibeau and Jaedyn Stratychuk scored goal to extend the lead. Devon St. Arnaud scored the first goal of the game for the Titans at the 7:40 mark. The Titans added another goal shortly after to cut the lead to 5-2. In the tail end of the first period, Donovan Bibeau picked up a pass from Blake Smith and netted the 6-2 goal.
Heat’s offense continues in second period
The Heat saw their lead cut in half on a goal by Titan’s player Bryce Moffat. Lakeland would respond by scoring five straight goals. Eric Coosemans, Isaac Brown, Donovan Bibeau, Blake Smith, and Tyson Coles all scored goals. Smith, Bibeau, Stratychuk, Kulczycki, and Mason Wild all picked up helpers in the period. The Titans managed to get two more goals in the period. The Heat led 11-5 after the second.
Goals continue to come
A positive game on offense continued into the third period. The Titans opened the period’s scoring; Moffat picked up his second of the afternoon at 17:26. Donovan Bibeau scored his fourth of the game shortly after. Both teams traded goals with Donovan Bibeau, and Anthony Conn striking for their teams. The Titans final goal was scored by Alex Colbert at 9:50 of the third. Jaedyn Stratychuk scored the final goal of the game, and cemented a 14-8 victory for the Lakeland Junior B Heat.
“Guys all came out to play today. They had something to prove to Sherwood Park., that we are number one and they can’t take anything away from us.” Head Coach Dennis Hodinsky said of the team’s effort.
The Lakeland Heat’s action packed week continues on Wednesday, June 21 when the Lloydminster Xtreme make a trip up to Cold Lake. The game will be held at Imperial Oil Place at 7:30 p.m.
