Is More Recycling Wanted in Elk Point
Town plans to survey residents to discover if there is a need/want for more recycling
At a recent Town Council meeting Council for the Town of Elk Point decided to hold off on moving forward with a residential blue bag recycling program, in favour of surveying the residents first to see if there is a need and a want for more recycling.
“We are going to survey our community to see if there is an interest in pursuing this,” Councillor Lorne Young, for the Town of Elk Point, explains that Quik Pick Waste Disposal presented the Town with a cost analysis of the program. “There is a cost to the users; so we’re going to survey the community in the Spring to find out if there’s enough interest in possibly proceeding; even in a trial basis.”
The Town had previously used Quik Pick Waste Disposal to conduct a trial bulk recycling program at the transfer station. The trial program was well received and well used by the residents. So much so, that Town Council voted to continue to the program, “we’ve entered into a contract with [Quik Pick]. The County and the Town are sharing the cost on that.”
The large bins give residents some options for recycling cardboard, plastics, and paper.
