RCMP Urge Motorists to Check Accident Scenes
Emergency crews typically put up yellow police tape if they’ve attended the scene
On December 15th, at 9:25 am, Cold Lake RCMP received a 911 call of a single vehicle rollover on Township Road 630 and Range Road 414. There was a 38 year old female trapped in her vehicle, following the rollover, and had to be extracted from the vehicle and taken to hospital. She was treated and released. Alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the rollover, “it appears the driver lost control, on the ice, hit the ditch and rolled several times,” explains Sgt Troy Hadland, of the Cold Lake RCMP Detachment.
Following the incident Cold Lake RCMP would like to ask the public to check accident scenes to ensure the people involved have been attended to. Sgt Hadland says the woman could not have otherwise escaped the accident, “she was trapped and a passing motorist noticed. She wasn’t able to phone.”
“If you see a vehicle in the ditch, maybe check it. There was no way she would’ve got out, and it was so cold.” Sgt Hadland says the Cold Lake Detachment will tape off the scene with yellow police tape if they’ve already been there. “If we leave the vehicle there, we’ll tape it off with yellow police tape. That way if someone phones it in, we’ll ask if there’s tape and know right away if we’ve been there.”
