Rock ‘Em Sock ‘Em

Tales from the Timebox: November 26th, 2016

You can’t deny that the more ice time you get to play,  the better you become as a player.  Sitting on the pine doesn’t give you any confidence at all when you do get on the ice.

The midget Avalanche don’t have that problem and have proved that it is possible to play with just barely over two lines.  They just  have play smarter and take less penalties. Easier said than done. The midgets have a record 4 wins and 3 losses this season, after their win on Grey Cup Sunday when they defeated the Lamont midgets by a touch down ….7… to a field goal …3…  in a rough penalty filled inter league game.

Getting a little stressful in the time box, especially in the second period where the Avalanche received 20 minutes in minor penalties plus a 10 minute misconduct. Lamont receiving 22 minutes in minor penalties plus 2 ten minutes misconducts. The scorekeeper having trouble keeping ink in her pen and would just barely write down one penalty when other would be heading to the box. The boys must have been really feeling their oats in this one.  Two goals plus two assists for ‘ Captain Obvious’ Austin Stafford, the ‘ Big O’ Brody Odgaard with two goals and an assist , Nick ‘ Sparky’ Anderson and Angus ‘ Micky’ McFarlane both adding goal.  Kyle ‘ Ketchup ‘ Kjenner with three assists, Hayden ‘Hot Wheels’ Ludlage with a couple of helpers too.   Goalie Spencer ‘ Fortress ‘ Hardcastle was very solid in this one. He has been playing outstanding all year. Outstanding….standing on his head at times!!

Check out the awesome new water fountain at the AG Ross!

The bantam Avalanche also played an inter league game on Saturday when they hosted Fort Saskatchewan, winning this one 4 to 2 af Goals by ‘ Lightning Liam ‘ Ludlage, Wolke ‘ the Wolf Man’ Cueva and Charlie ‘  Angel’ Rogal. Stay at home defenseman Jace ‘ the Stafford Streak’ with an empty netter after the Fort pulled the goalie in the last minute. The ‘ Streak’ doesn’t get a lot of goals or glory for that matter, he just goes about doing his job week after week, clearing out players and pucks from the front of our net, all guts no glory!! Two assists each for ‘ King Cole’ Bendixen and Jaden ‘ Jetstream’ Van Maarion.

Too much time in the sin bin for the  peewee boys who also played a really good game in inter league action on Saturday against Lamont.  No score after forty minutes goalie Vanden ‘ Super Mario ‘ Moroziuk was stellar stopping the rubber 40 times in the first two periods.  The boys running into some penalty trouble in the third period,  Lamont scoring 2 power play goals and one a penalty shot. Landon the Magnificiant ‘ Malachowski  getting one back with 40 seconds left. ‘ Mic Jager’ Fontaine with another with only 14 seconds , it would be too little too late, but making it a very respectable 4 to 2 the final.   Defenseman Cea jay Quinney was a shot blocking machine in this one. ‘Wild Wyatt’ Pavoll doing some awesome fore checking.

Two, four, six……Eight straight for the Atom Avalanche on Saturday after they defeated St. Paul 4 to 1 . ‘ King Kong Konnor’ Poitras with 2 goals , Kaleb ‘ Formula One’ Flamand and Cash ‘ CC’ Capjack with one goal and one assist each. ‘ Bo Diddley’ Fontaine also on the score sheet with an assist. On Sunday at 9 am the bubble final burst for the Atoms when they played a inter league game in Fort Saskatchewan. losing for the first time this year. the score 6 to1 in favor of the Fort, the shots 40 to 11 in favor of the Fort. ‘ King Kong Konnor with the only goal. In all fairness to the boys, playing a 9 am game two hours away from home is a little bit rough, although I did hear most of them stayed over night in the Fort….but did they get enough sleep?

A tie is like kissing you sister but don’t tell these guys that. The novice 1 A team ended up with a 5 all tie on Saturday when they hosted Glendon. Madden ‘ Mad Dog’ Flamand with a hat trick and an assist, Raif ‘ Rug Rat’ Evans Anderson with a goal and two assists, ‘ Without a Trace’ Morgan with a goal and Spencer Malachowski with an assist . Goalie Sebastien Brousseau making some great saves. Up from the farm team and not looking out of place one bit , Wyatt ‘ Earp’ Fontaine also on the score sheet with an assist.  They needed to pull out the firehose for  novice 1 B team who played on Sunday against losing a barn burner 9 to 8. A hat trick for Braylee ‘ B.J.’ Lesyk, two goals for Evett’ Snoopy ‘ Smereka, one goal each for the twin sister act, Charlotte and Anna Henderson. Keyson DeMoisac finding the twine with one. Brenden Kadutski with a couple of helpers, Miles Koren with an assist as well.

And now for the K.A. Campbell quote of the week. ‘ You can learn little from victory. You can learn everything from defeat. ‘ -Christy Mathewson
