Stalls Continue at Bonnylodge
“We still have no activity on the villagette,” at Bonnylodge Phase II, confirms Councillor Ray Prevost, with the Town of Bonnyville. Prevost reports that Lakeland Lodge & Housing met Monday evening, with the Bonnylodge being a top agenda items, as well as, the elections. Prevost also reports that he has stepped down as Chair of Lakeland Lodge & Housing and will now serve as Vice-Chair, with City of Cold Lake Councillor, Chris Vinning taking over the Chair position.
“We were told [mid-October] that we would be in by December 1st, but we haven’t seen a soul there since,” Prevost reports that to his knowledge no contractors or construction has taken place; which is a big shame because the project is 85% complete. The project halted in the spring, after the contractor went broke. Lakeland Lodge & Housing has been lobbying the Provincial Government to use the bid bond to hire a new contractor.
“I had a conversation [on Tuesday] with the Province and I’m suspecting it’ll be February before anyone is in,” Prevost says the Province has hired another contractor to finish the project.
“The building is probably 85% finished,” explains Prevost, “we can’t get an occupational permit without a fire alarm system that’s 100% functional, the heating system needs to be properly balanced and functional and certainly, the elevator (needs work). There has to be a phone in it and there’s water in the elevator shaft,” Prevost reports there’s 10-12 inches of water in the elevator shaft that contractors will have to figure out how it got there, remove it and how to stop it from happening again. “There’s some issues that need to be fixed.”
The Province of Alberta is working on a schedule of completion, which hasn’t yet been shared with Lakeland Lodge & Housing.
