Man Shot in Iron River; Several Suspects Wanted
Bonnyville RCMP investigate shooting
On Sept. 26, 2016 at approximately 7:00 p.m., Bonnyville RCMP responded to a report of man who was shot in Iron River. Members arrived and found the victim was shot once with what was believed to be a firearm. The victim suffered a serious but non-life-threatening injury while he was parked in a vehicle with another occupant and was taken to hospital by EMS. No one else was injured during this incident. The four suspects who were in another vehicle fled the area.
Police made extensive patrols for the suspects and vehicle but they were not located. Police do not believe there is any danger to the public and that the shooting was not a random act.
Bonnyville RCMP are looking for several suspects and a vehicle in relation to this incident and are requesting assistance in identifying the suspects and vehicle in the attached pictures.
The suspect vehicle is described as:
- Blue Chevy truck (older model)
- Duct tape covering the back window

Bonnyville RCMP along with Edmonton General Investigation Section (GIS) have charged three suspects in relation to a shooting incident in Iron River.
On September 13, 2016 at approximately 6:00 p.m., two suspects entered the Caslan General Store east of Boyle and committed an armed robbery. The suspects demanded cash, cigarettes and lottery tickets from the clerk. During the course of the robbery, one of the suspects fired a shot into a display case. No one was injured during this incident.
On September 20, 2016, at approximately 4:00 p.m., Lac La Biche RCMP received a call of an armed robbery at a business on the Beaver Lake Cree Nation. A man walked into the business with what a witness believed to be a firearm, wearing a mask, and gloves. The man left the business with an undisclosed amount of money and entered into a vehicle outside. No one was seriously injured.
Members along with Boyle, Lac La Biche, St. Paul RCMP detachments and the Forensic Identification Section (FIS) worked together during an extensive investigation and arrest of several suspects related to these incidents. A firearm and ammunition were seized during the course of the investigations.
Keith Patrick Cardinal, a 30-year-old from Lac La Biche is charged with 32 Criminal Code offences as it is alleged he was involved in all three incidents. Charges include:
- Robbery with a firearm (X2)
- Pointing a firearm
- Extortion with a firearm
- Aggravated assault
- Disguise with intent to commit an offence
- Assault with a weapon
- Theft under $5000.00
He was remanded into custody and is set to appear via CCTV in:

Ryan Lee Desjarlais, a 34-year-old from Lac La Biche who is alleged to be involved with the Bonnyville shooting incident is charged with:
- Aggravated Assault
- Extortion with a firearm
- Possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose
- Unauthorized possession of a prohibited weapon
- Unauthorized possession of a firearm in a motor vehicle
He was remanded into custody and is set to appear in Bonnyville Provincial Court via CCTV on October 18, 2016.
Fiona Lynn Anderson, a 43-year-old from Lac La Biche who is alleged to be involved with the Bonnyville shooting incident is charged with:
- Aggravated assault
- Extortion with a firearm
- Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
- Unauthorized possession of a prohibited weapon
- Unauthorized possession of a firearm in a motor vehicle
- Fail to comply with court imposed conditions (X2)
She was remanded into custody and her next court appearance will be October 18, 2016 via CCTV in Bonnyville Provincial Court.
Curtis Zwozdesky, a 53-year-old from St. Paul is alleged to be involved in the Boyle and Lac La Biche armed robberies is charged with:
- Robbery with a firearm
- Assault with a weapon
- Possession of a firearm knowing it’s unauthorized
- Unauthorized possession of a firearm in a motor vehicle
He was remanded into custody and is set to appear in:
Boyle Provincial Court via CCTV on October 11, 2016

UPDATE #2
On September 26, 2016 Bonnyville RCMP towed a truck involved in a shooting in Iron River. A Search Warrant was executed on the truck and a multitude of stolen property was recovered including several Passports, Identification Cards and Credit Cards that do not belong to either occupant of the truck.
A 23 year old male from Bonnyville has been charged with 40 Counts and will appear in Bonnyville Provincial Court October 25th.
A 31 year old male from Bonnyville is being charged with 37 Counts and a Warrant has been requested for his arrest.
The offences laid against both males include Identity Theft, Misuse of Credit Card, Possession of Stolen Property, Possession of Cocaine & Meth and Failing to Comply.
