Renee Malo Plans Fort Mac Relief Concert
Local musician, Renee Malo, is planning a relief concert for those affected by the Fort McMurray fire. The plan is to have five bands, including her own group, with all money raised being donated to the Red Cross.
Malo says she started working on the concert only yesterday and it blew up, “I put a little message on Facebook and immediately got calls from local media,” laughs Malo. “It really just blew up.” The Cold Lake musician is waiting to hear back from a few bands to complete to stage, but can confirm her band and local group, Midlife Crisis, will be hitting the stage before the end of the month.
“I’m waiting to hear back from the Mayor,” Malo explains the City is waiting to hear from the Province regarding the evacuee situation and whether or not the Energy Centre will be activated to house people. Malo says the plan is to officially work out details with Mayor Craig Copeland on Monday. Until then she’s busy working on a list of bands and volunteers to put on the big event.
As for a date, Malo is shooting for the last weekend of May, knowing many already have plans for May Long Weekend. LCN will keep you posted as concert details become available.
The Provincial & Federal Governments will match any donation made to the Red Cross, every $1 = $3. Authorities are strongly urging people to STOP donating items at evacuation centres & non-official evacuation centres. The do NOT have the manpower to deal with these types of donations, nor are these donations what is immediately needed/wanted. These centres need cash to purchase what is needed. Gift cards will also be accepted but NO items.
