All NLSD Schools in Plamondon, Wandering River & Lac La Biche Closed for Thursday
Due to ongoing traffic congestion from the evacuation of Fort McMurray, Northern Lights is cancelling all classes at its schools in Lac La Biche, Wandering River and Plamondon for Thursday, May 5.
“Emergency service personnel have requested space to be able to deal with the traffic congestion and the inflow of evacuees,” explained Deputy Superintendent Roy Ripkens. “To assist with this, we will be cancelling classes for tomorrow.”
Buses and classes are cancelled, but schools will be open and staff will be on site. Friday, May 6 is a Family Friday, so regular classes will resume for students on Monday, May 9.
Northern Lights staff and students have been involved in efforts to assist evacuees. J.A. Williams High School is located at the Bold Centre, which is currently a reception centre for evacuees. Staff spent the day helping to prepare and serve meals. Northern Lights will continue to provide assistance to evacuees and emergency personnel on an ongoing basis as needed.
