At approximately 3:30 pm on April 24th, the Bonnyville RCMP Detachment received a call regarding an attempted theft of liquor at Bonnyville Liquor Mart on 47th avenue in Bonnyville. When police arrived on scene, a citizen had stopped the suspected theft by holding him to the ground.

Through investigation, RCMP believe the suspect was spotted, by two bystanders, while stealing a bottle of liquor. While a store employee yelled, the suspect attempted to run away; however the two bystanders took action and followed the suspect in a vehicle, while calling the police. The suspect then jumped a fence to attempt to get away. The fence wasn’t enough to stop the citizens, who, along with the employee were able to catch the suspect and stop him.

Police have arrested and charged a 22 year old male, from Bonnyville, for theft, as well as failing to comply with conditions. The man has been released on court compelling documents and is to appear on June 7th, 2016 at Bonnyville Provincial Court. One of the court conditions include the male has being prohibited from entering the Bonnyville Liquor Mart.
