The new aquatics facility at the Bold Centre has officially received its name.
Lac La Biche County Council has approved International Petroleum Corporation (IPC) as the naming rights sponsor for the new facility, which will be known as the IPC Aquatics Centre.
The centre is one of the County’s largest recreation investments and is designed to serve residents of all ages with a range of aquatic and wellness amenities.
Facility Designed Around Community Feedback
According to the County, the project was shaped by feedback gathered through a public engagement process.
The new facility will feature:
- A lazy river
- Teaching and leisure pool
- Six-lane competition pool
- Waterslide
- Two hot tubs
- Outdoor patio and hot tub
- Additional recreational amenities
County officials say the facility is intended to enhance quality of life while supporting health, wellness and recreation opportunities throughout the region.
Partnership Recognized Through Naming Rights
Mayor Paul Reutov said IPC’s investment reflects a long-term commitment to the community and local economy.
“International Petroleum Corporation’s investment in Lac La Biche County reflects the kind of long-term partnership that helps communities grow,” said Reutov.
He noted IPC’s Blackrod project, located north of Wandering River along Highway 63, contributes to local employment opportunities and economic development.
“We are proud to recognize that partnership through the naming of the International Petroleum Corporation Aquatic Centre — a new community facility that will serve families, youth, seniors, and residents for generations to come.”
IPC Highlights Community Investment
Travis Henson, Project Director for Blackrod at IPC Canada Ltd., said the company sees the sponsorship as an investment in the future of the region.
“IPC is proud to invest in the Lac La Biche County and the surrounding region, where our business, our people and our future is rooted,” said Henson.
“We employ local residents, contribute to the regional economy and are committed to being a long-term partner in the community’s growth.”
Henson added that supporting the aquatics facility aligns with the company’s goal of helping build healthy and vibrant communities while continuing to grow alongside the region.
Opening Moves Closer
Construction on the aquatics facility continues to advance toward completion, with recent County updates indicating major interior work, pool testing and mechanical commissioning remain underway.
Once open, the IPC Aquatics Centre will provide year-round aquatic programming, fitness opportunities and recreational space for residents across Lac La Biche County and the surrounding area.
