The Bonnyville Regional Fire Authority officially launched Next Generation 9-1-1 services and opened its new Emergency Communication Centre on June 15.

According to the BRFA, the dual-phase transition took place at 10 a.m. and included both the relocation to the new facility and the digital transition to the NG9-1-1 platform.

Officials said the move was completed without any disruption to emergency services following extensive planning, testing and preparation by IT resources, BRFA leadership and public safety personnel.

“This marks a transformative milestone for public safety in our region,” said Deputy Chief of Communications Annamarie Wirachowsky.

“By combining a modern, state-of-the-art physical facility with next-generation digital technology, we are significantly enhancing our dispatch capabilities, improving regional interoperability, and ensuring our team has the tools they need to protect the communities we serve.”

Key Improvements

The BRFA says the transition to NG9-1-1 establishes a more resilient, internet protocol-based emergency network designed to support long-term reliability and advanced data capabilities.

The new Emergency Communication Centre also provides a modernized environment designed to support emergency response operations and staff well-being.

Throughout the transition, emergency call handling, dispatch and coordination functions remained fully operational, with no interruption in service.

No Changes for Residents

Officials emphasized there are no changes to how residents contact emergency services.

In an emergency, residents should continue to dial 9-1-1 to be connected with emergency responders.

The BRFA also thanked its technical partners, stakeholders and Emergency Communication Officers for their training and preparation leading up to the transition.
