COOK’S ASSISTANT (FULL-TIME)

Wah Pow Healing Lodge is seeking a reliable and motivated individual to join its team as a Full-Time Cook’s Assistant. This role supports the preparation of healthy, balanced meals for clients while maintaining high standards of kitchen safety, cleanliness, and food quality.

The successful candidate will assist in ensuring menus are carried out as planned, food costs are controlled, and accreditation standards for client care and safety are maintained.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Grade 12 Diploma or equivalent
  • First Aid/CPR Certification
  • TDG Certification
  • WHMIS Certification
  • Minimum of 1 year experience as a Cook
  • Minimum of 2 years sobriety
  • Ability to complete annual Criminal Record and Child Welfare Checks

ASSET QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Post-secondary education in Culinary Arts
  • Experience working within a First Nation community
  • Combination of education and related experience may be considered

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist with planning and preparing nutritious meals and snacks, including traditional Cree foods
  • Maintain kitchen safety, hygiene, and food handling standards, including temperature logs, proper storage, and PPE requirements
  • Ensure consistent food availability, including weekends and special events
  • Monitor inventory, rotate stock, and assist with purchasing supplies within budget
  • Accommodate dietary restrictions, allergies, and special dietary needs
  • Clean and sanitize kitchen and common areas according to daily, weekly, and monthly schedules
  • Maintain accurate records including menus, food logs, inventory, and cleaning schedules
  • Safely store equipment and follow all health and safety regulations
  • Support clients in developing basic cooking skills and promoting overall wellbeing
  • Attend staff meetings and collaborate with team members
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Fast-paced kitchen environment within a residential treatment facility
  • Requires standing for extended periods and performing physical tasks
  • Collaborative team setting focused on holistic healing and client wellness

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

  • Minimum 2 years sobriety required
  • Successful completion of annual Criminal Record and Child Welfare Checks
  • Must maintain required certifications throughout employment

SALARY:

To be determined upon hire
