A major resurfacing project for the St. Paul tennis courts is moving ahead this summer, with the Tennis Club asking the Town to temporarily cover remaining project costs until future casino funding becomes available.

Council reviewed the request during its June 8 meeting, following a presentation from the St. Paul Tennis Club at a previous meeting. The project involves installing a new playing surface on the community tennis courts located adjacent to the St. Paul Golf Course.

According to information presented to council, the Tennis Club has already contributed a $10,000 deposit toward the resurfacing project. However, rising construction costs have pushed the total project cost to approximately $40,000, leaving an estimated balance of roughly $30,000 still owing.
Rather than requesting a grant, the club is asking the Town to advance the remaining project costs and allow repayment through future casino funding allocations.

Under the proposal, the Tennis Club would repay $10,000 once it receives its 2026 casino funding allocation, with the remaining balance repaid from casino funding expected in late 2027.
Club representatives told the Town that using all available casino funds toward the resurfacing project would leave limited resources available for youth programming and ongoing operations. The organization runs summer camps and programming for local youth and faces annual operating costs of approximately $10,000.

The Administration prepared a draft repayment agreement under which the Town would pay the contractor directly upon completion of the project. The Tennis Club would then reimburse the municipality for the full amount advanced. No interest will be charged provided that repayments are made in accordance with the agreement.

The resurfacing project is expected to be completed during the 2026 season, providing an updated playing surface for local athletes and community users.
