COMMUNITY PROGRAMMER
Are you a community-minded professional who excels at bringing people together? Bonnyville & District FCSS is seeking an energetic, highly organized, and approachable Community Programmer to join its team.
Reporting to the Community Services Director, the successful candidate will participate in all aspects of preventative social service program development, from concept and design to promotion, delivery, and evaluation. This role plays a vital part in strengthening community wellbeing through programs, workshops, events, and support services that respond to the diverse needs of Bonnyville residents.
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School Diploma supplemented by post-secondary education in Human Services, Social Work, or a related field
- Community Social Services Diploma or equivalent preferred
- Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered
- Strong understanding of, or ability to interpret and apply, the FCSS Act and Regulation
- Valid Class 5 Alberta Driver’s License
- Current Standard First Aid and CPR Certification
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Criminal Record Check and Child Intervention/Welfare Clearance
- Successful completion of pre-employment Drug and Alcohol Testing
- Ability to lift up to 20 lbs
ASSET QUALIFICATIONS:
- Previous experience working in a municipal environment
- Experience with grant writing, funding proposals, and reporting requirements
- Experience coordinating volunteers and community events
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Design, market, facilitate, and evaluate preventative, outcome-based social service programs aligned with the Family and Community Support Services Act and Framework
- Provide client support through referrals and advocacy for seniors, individuals with disabilities, and disadvantaged residents
- Plan, organize, and coordinate workshops, conferences, special events, and community initiatives
- Arrange guest speakers, venues, and event logistics
- Deliver child and family programming that promotes long-term community resiliency
- Recruit, train, and support volunteers
- Provide mentorship and support to practicum and work-experience students
- Collaborate with team members while independently managing assigned projects
- Assist with data collection, budget tracking, grant applications, and reporting requirements
- Participate in Emergency Social Services (ESS) training
- Perform other related duties as assigned
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE:
- Excellent public speaking, facilitation, and presentation skills
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to connect with people of all ages and backgrounds
- High emotional intelligence and exceptional customer service abilities
- Self-motivated and capable of working independently with minimal supervision
- Reliable, cooperative, and committed to teamwork
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, including Word and Spreadsheets
- Experience using Canva and social media platforms for program marketing and communications
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- Combination of office, program delivery, and community event settings
- Regular interaction with community members, volunteers, and partner organizations
- Occasional evening or weekend work may be required for programs and events
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
- Successful completion of Criminal Record and Child Intervention/Welfare Clearances
- Successful completion of pre-employment Drug and Alcohol Testing
- Must maintain required certifications and licensing throughout employment
