CASUAL PUBLIC WORKS OPERATOR I
The Town of Bonnyville is seeking a motivated and team-oriented individual for the position of Casual Public Works Operator I. Under the direction of the Operations Director or designate, the successful candidate will perform routine maintenance and operational duties supporting municipal Public Works services.
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Valid Class 1 or Class 3 Driver’s License
- Valid Air Brake Endorsement
- Ability to provide a current Driver’s Abstract
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience operating machinery such as bobcat, backhoe, wheel loader, and packer
- Strong communication skills, including the ability to follow verbal and written instructions
- Physically capable of performing manual labour and operating heavy equipment
- Successful completion of pre-employment Drug and Alcohol Testing
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Operate equipment associated with roadways, sidewalks, storm sewer construction, and repairs, including trucks, tractors, packers, rotovators, and bobcat wheel loaders
- Operate equipment required for winter maintenance operations
- Perform minor equipment maintenance such as fueling, oil changes, greasing, and washing
- Carry out manual labour duties related to transportation operations, including solid waste collection and maintenance of roads, sidewalks, street signs, and alleyways
- Assist Utilities operations as required, including utility digs, sewer flushing, and catch basin repairs
- Assist with preparation for community events by installing decorations, holiday lights, flags, banners, and related infrastructure
- Adhere to all Occupational Health & Safety procedures and safe work practices
- Work collaboratively as part of the Public Works team
- Participate in rotational standby schedules
- Work overtime as required
- Pursue required certification levels in roads, parks, and utility operations
- Perform other related duties as assigned
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- Outdoor work in varying weather conditions
- Operation of municipal vehicles and heavy equipment
- May require working in confined spaces and at heights (training provided)
- Rotational standby shifts and overtime may be required
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to lift and carry weights exceeding 15 kg up to approximately 25 kg
- Ability to walk on uneven surfaces
- Frequent stooping, kneeling, and crouching
- Ability to climb stairs and ladders
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
- Successful completion of pre-employment Drug and Alcohol Testing is required
- Must comply with Occupational Health & Safety regulations and Town policies
