ATCO Electric
Travis Wowdzia and Richelle Bourget with ATCO Electric presented the annual franchise fee report for the Town of Vermilion. The report highlighted updated reliability statistics, system development, customer satisfaction and community contributions made by ATCO.
Vermilion Public Library
Stuart Pauls and Margaret McCormack with the Vermilion Public Library presented concerns from the Library Board regarding Bill 28 and requested advocacy support from council. The Town of Vermilion agreed to provide a letter of support for the library’s position and will present the draft letter to the Library Board before circulating it publicly.

Sewer Charge Adjustment Applications
Council delegated the review, approval and rejection of sewer charge adjustment applications to administration under Sewer Charge Adjustment Policy No. 26-05. The policy allows sanitary sewer charges to be adjusted or waived in situations where Town-supplied water is permanently and verifiably not being discharged into the municipal sanitary sewer system.

2026 Seniors’ Week Proclamation
Council proclaimed June 1–7, 2026 as Seniors’ Week in the Town of Vermilion, recognizing the Province of Alberta’s 40th anniversary of Seniors’ Week celebrations. The proclamation recognizes the contributions seniors make to communities across Alberta.
The Town has booked Vermilion Heritage Park for a community event on Tuesday, June 2 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., which will include a BBQ luncheon and activities.
2026 Neighbour Day Proclamation
Council proclaimed June 6, 2026 as Neighbour Day in the Town of Vermilion. The day is intended to encourage community connection, civic engagement and stronger neighbourhood relationships through gatherings, volunteerism and acts of kindness.
VIBE will host a celebration at the new toddler playground on 52 Avenue and is inviting residents to attend.
2026 National Public Works Week
Council proclaimed May 17–23, 2026 as National Public Works Week in the Town of Vermilion. The week recognizes the workers responsible for maintaining roads, water and wastewater systems, storm drainage, parks, municipal facilities, fleet operations and other key infrastructure services.
VIA Rail Prairie North Line Support Letter
Council agreed to send a letter of support in principle to the City of Lloydminster regarding the proposed VIA Rail Prairie North Line Project.
The proposal would shift VIA Rail service from the CN Main Line to the Prairie North Line through Humboldt, Saskatchewan. The project aims to improve rail accessibility, strengthen regional connectivity and improve on-time service for rural and Indigenous communities.
The Town noted the request is intended to demonstrate regional interest and support for improved passenger rail service and related economic development opportunities.
