Bonnyville–Cold Lake–St. Paul MLA Scott Cyr has officially been sworn in as Alberta’s new Parliamentary Secretary for Transportation and Strategic Development.

The appointment places Cyr in a provincial role supporting Alberta Transportation and Economic Corridors Minister Devin Dreeshen, with a focus on infrastructure planning, transportation corridors and long-term economic development initiatives.

“Today, I was honoured to be sworn in as Parliamentary Secretary for Transportation and Strategic Development,” Cyr said following the announcement.

Focus on transportation and economic corridors

According to Cyr, the new position will involve supporting strategic transportation corridors, regional infrastructure planning and economic growth initiatives tied to trade and major investment projects across Alberta.

The role also includes collaboration with municipalities, Indigenous communities, industry and regional partners.

“This work will help shape Alberta’s future for generations to come,” Cyr said.

He added that Alberta’s continued population and economic growth make long-term infrastructure planning increasingly important.

Experience rooted in energy sector and finance

Cyr said his background working as an accountant and in Alberta’s oil and gas industry has shaped his understanding of infrastructure and economic development needs across the province.

“My experience… has given me firsthand insight into the importance of infrastructure, investment certainty, and economic growth in supporting communities across our province,” he said.

Northeastern Alberta voice at the table

Despite the new provincial role, Cyr emphasized that representing Bonnyville–Cold Lake–St. Paul remains his top priority.

“Our region has shaped my perspective from day one, and I will continue working hard to ensure northeastern Alberta has a strong voice at the table,” he said.

The appointment could place additional focus on infrastructure priorities important to the Lakeland, including Highway 28 upgrades, economic corridor development and planning tied to the expansion at 4 Wing Cold Lake.

Recognition for previous work on corridors

Cyr also acknowledged MLA Shane Getson, who previously served as Parliamentary Secretary for Economic Corridor Development.

He credited Getson with helping advance Alberta’s corridor initiatives provincially and internationally over the past several years.

Looking ahead

The appointment comes as Alberta continues pushing major infrastructure, trade and transportation projects aimed at supporting economic growth and resource development.

Cyr said the work ahead will require “strong collaboration and long-term thinking” as the province plans for future growth.

He also thanked his wife Megan and their daughters, noting the personal sacrifices that come with public service.

“I could not do this work without them beside me every step of the way,” he said.

The new role gives Cyr a larger voice in provincial infrastructure discussions while continuing to represent northeastern Alberta at the Legislature.
