Environment Canada has issued a Special Weather Statement for much of northeastern Alberta as rain mixed with snow continues across the region Friday.
Forecasters say local snowfall amounts of 2 to 5 centimetres are possible throughout the day, although accumulation remains uncertain due to the snow being very wet and temperatures hovering near freezing.
The statement also warns that recent rainfall, snowmelt and ongoing localized flooding concerns have already saturated the ground in many areas, reducing its ability to absorb additional moisture.
Precipitation is expected to taper off by this evening.
Residents are encouraged to use caution on highways and rural roads, particularly in areas where slush, pooling water or reduced visibility may develop.
Environment Canada says conditions will continue to be monitored and additional alerts may be issued if necessary.
