Bonnyville council has approved a letter of support for the Bonnyville Golf and Country Club as the organization pursues federal and provincial grant funding for a proposed clubhouse renovation and modernization project.
The discussion focused primarily on the Town’s role in supporting the application process and ensuring the motion would not create a direct financial obligation for the municipality.
Administration described the golf clubhouse as an aging facility that continues to serve as an important gathering place for members, families, residents and visitors.
Council members discussed the procedural nature of the request, clarifying that the support letter was intended to strengthen the club’s grant applications rather than commit municipal funding.
When the motion came forward, Councillor Neil Langridge voiced support for the initiative.
“I’ll be willing to give you that motion… that council provide a letter of support to the Bonnyville Golf and Country Club to support their federal and provincial grant applications for the proposed renovation and modernization project,” Langridge said.
Council subsequently passed the motion.
The proposed upgrades are intended to help modernize the facility and support the long-term sustainability of the golf club, which remains a popular recreational and social hub within the community. Administration noted the clubhouse continues to host tournaments, events, community gatherings and visitors throughout the golf season.
During the same meeting, council also approved a platinum-level sponsorship package for the upcoming Tri-Tribal Chiefs networking golf tournament.
Discussion surrounding the sponsorship focused on relationship building, regional partnerships and the value of maintaining a municipal presence at Indigenous-led business and networking events.
Councillors also discussed the broader economic and promotional opportunities tied to participation in regional events and tournaments.
The sponsorship approval includes municipal participation and promotional recognition connected to the event.
Council members noted the tournament provides opportunities for networking with regional leaders, businesses and neighbouring communities while supporting collaboration across the region.
