Elk Point council is continuing to support local recreation facilities and community events, approving funding assistance for the curling club while also discussing the upcoming golf season, annual car show and broader summer programming throughout the community.

During its May 11 meeting, council approved a $7,000 contribution to assist the Elk Point Curling Club with rising insurance costs as the organization continues working toward larger facility improvements.

Council also approved providing a formal letter of support for the club’s grant application tied to future upgrades to its ice plant and concrete pad infrastructure.

Curling club planning for long-term sustainability

The discussion highlighted the ongoing financial pressures many community facilities face, particularly in maintaining aging infrastructure and covering operational costs.

The Elk Point Curling Club is currently working to secure matching funds for future improvements, which are expected to modernize portions of the facility and enhance long-term sustainability.

Council noted the curling rink continues to serve as an important recreation and social hub within the community, hosting league play, bonspiels, youth programming and community events throughout the winter season.

The insurance contribution approved by the council is intended to help stabilize operating costs while the club continues to pursue larger grant opportunities.

Golf course preparing for busy season

Council also received updates from the Elk Point Golf & Country Club, which is preparing for the summer season while continuing work on facility upgrades and maintenance projects.

The golf course has hired seasonal staff and is continuing improvements around the clubhouse and grounds ahead of increased summer activity.

Renovations to the clubhouse kitchen area have experienced some delays due to plumbing and sink code requirements, while additional upgrades to the deck and surrounding areas continue.

Council also discussed campground signage, speed concerns and operational updates tied to the golf course property.

Despite a later spring and ongoing cleanup work, preparations continue for another active golf season.

Summer events beginning to take shape

Council also reviewed several upcoming community events and summer activities planned throughout Elk Point.

Among them is the return of the Elk Point Auto Club’s annual car show, which continues to attract participants and visitors from across the region.

The event has become a regular part of Elk Point’s summer calendar and contributes to local tourism and economic activity during the warmer months.

Additional tourism and recreation initiatives are also being planned as the community moves toward the summer season.

Volunteer organizations remain key to community life

The discussions reflected the ongoing importance of volunteer groups and community organizations in supporting recreation, tourism and local events across Elk Point.

From maintaining facilities to organizing events and programming, council acknowledged the major role local organizations continue to play in helping build community connections and activity throughout the year.

More details on summer events and recreation programming are expected to be announced in the coming weeks.
