Bonnyville council marked a shift at the council table this week, officially swearing in newly elected councillor Yvonne Szydlik and updating committee appointments for the year ahead.

Szydlik took the oath of office during the April 28 meeting, formally stepping into her role following the recent byelection. With the swearing-in complete, council moved forward with reorganizing its internal structure to reflect the updated composition.

Committee structure refreshed

Council approved a full slate of committee and board appointments, covering standing committees, regional partnerships and community representation roles.

Several adjustments were made during discussion, including updates to representation on key boards such as the Bonnyville and District Leisure Facility Corporation and the Bonnyville Regional Fire Authority. Councillors also took on roles within intermunicipal and regional groups, including tourism and collaborative initiatives with neighbouring communities.

The appointments help define how council members will divide responsibilities outside regular meetings, ensuring representation across local boards, regional partnerships and community organizations.

Setting the tone for the term

With a new councillor joining the table, the updated committee structure reflects both continuity and change, as council prepares to move forward on priorities for the remainder of the term.

The appointments were approved by council and take effect immediately.
