Unofficial results from the Town of Bonnyville’s 2026 municipal byelection show Yvonne Szydlik in the lead following Monday’s vote.
In a public statement following the release of the preliminary results, Szydlik thanked the community and acknowledged fellow candidates.
“Thank you, Bonnyville. I am honoured to have been elected to Town Council and deeply grateful for the support I’ve received throughout this campaign.
“To everyone who reached out, shared kind words, and placed their trust in me, thank you.
“I also want to acknowledge the other candidates for their commitment to our community. It takes dedication to step forward and be part of this process, and I appreciate the role each of you played.
“I look forward to getting to work, listening, and representing our community with care and integrity.”
Vote breakdown
According to the unofficial results, Szydlik received 205 votes, the highest total among the five candidates.
Michael Procinsky finished second with 102 votes, followed by Kelly Wood with 80. Christine (Tina) Michaud received 56 votes, while Jack Midgley recorded 32.
Low turnout in five-candidate race
A total of 485 ballots were cast out of 4,486 eligible voters, resulting in a voter turnout of just over 10 per cent.
The byelection was held to fill the vacant council seat following the passing of Councillor Brian McEvoy earlier this year.
Results remain unofficial
The results are currently unofficial and will be confirmed by the Town of Bonnyville following the official count.
Once confirmed, the successful candidate will join council and take part in upcoming municipal decisions, including budget planning and community development initiatives.
