Firefighters were called out before sunrise to battle a structure fire inside a large agricultural building in Paradise Valley — and managed to stop it before it spread further.
Heavy Smoke, Fast Response
Just before 6 a.m., Paradise Valley Fire Department responded to reports of a fire inside a pig barn. The first officer on scene reported heavy smoke conditions in the middle of the building, prompting an immediate escalation.
A second alarm was issued, bringing in tanker support from Blackfoot Fire and Rescue and Kitscoty Fire Department. Additional support was also called from Islay Fire Department, along with ATCO, RCMP and County officials.
Crews Attack Fire Inside Attic
With rural water shuttle operations being set up, firefighters made an aggressive interior push deep into the structure. Crews located the fire in the attic space and worked quickly to contain it.
At the same time, responders ensured animals inside the barn were safely moved away from danger.
Fire Stopped Before Spread
By 7:55 a.m., crews reported a “stop loss,” meaning the fire had been contained and prevented from spreading further. Teams then rotated through the building to handle salvage and overhaul, confirming there was no additional extension.
At 9:32 a.m., Incident Commander Deputy Chief Lyndon Davies confirmed the fire was fully extinguished and the scene was turned back over to the property owner.

Cause Under Investigation
The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but officials say it is not considered suspicious.
All animals were checked following the incident, with no injuries reported.
