Residents near Little Cold Lake Beach can expect increased activity next week as students take part in a hands-on, land-based learning experience.

Students Head to the Ice March 23–27

Cold Lake First Nations has issued a notice to the Little Cold Lake (149A) community that school ice fishing activities will be taking place from March 23 to 27, 2026.

The program is being organized by the Education, Language and Culture Department and will include students from Northern Lights Public Schools and Lakeland Catholic Schools. The outings will run as full-day events throughout the week.

Learning on the Land

The goal of the program is to give students the chance to step outside the classroom and connect with traditional land-based practices.

Organizers say the experience is meant to blend outdoor education with cultural learning, while encouraging participation from students, staff, and community members.

What Residents Can Expect

Community members may notice:

  • Increased traffic near the beach
  • School buses coming and going
  • Staff supervision on-site

Groups of students participating in ice fishing activities

Officials say this is all part of the planned programming for the week.

Apology for Short Notice

Cold Lake First Nations acknowledged the late notice and thanked the community for its understanding and continued support of youth programming.

Anyone with questions or concerns is encouraged to contact the Education Department at 780-594-7183.
