A blanket of freezing rain has coated a large portion of the County of Vermilion River, leading to traffic delays and multiple collisions.

 

What we know:

Vermilion Fire & Rescue is responding to a transport truck collision on Highway 16 near the Transportation Weight Scales. Traffic in the area has been reduced, and motorists should expect delays while crews work on scene.

Kitscoty Fire Department, along with Marwayne Fire and Rescue, is also responding to a semi-truck rollover on Highway 897. That collision has forced the closure of Highway 897 between Township Road 510 and Township Road 512. Detours are expected, and that stretch of roadway is expected to remain closed for several hours.

A 511 Alberta alert has been issued, and travel is not recommended at this time.

Two motor vehicle collisions reported on Highway 16 and Highway 897 North

Vermilion Fire & Rescue is responding to a transport truck collision on Highway 16 near the Transportation Weight Scales. Traffic in the area has been reduced, and motorists should expect delays while crews work on scene.
