The Bonnyville Sr. Pontiacs battled the Meadow Lake Broncos in a weekend home-and-home series, dropping the first game on the road before bouncing back with a strong win in front of their home crowd at the RJ Lalonde Arena.

Broncos Take Game One

On Saturday, March 7, the Pontiacs travelled to Meadow Lake, where the Broncos won 4–2.

After a scoreless first period, Denis Cadrin opened the scoring late in the second period with an unassisted goal to give Bonnyville a 1–0 lead.

Meadow Lake responded quickly with two goals just seconds apart from Logan Pethick and Regan Yew, taking a 2–1 lead into the third.

The Broncos extended their advantage early in the final frame when Tylin Cameron scored to make it 3–1.

Bonnyville cut the deficit to one midway through the third when Coltan Buchta scored on the power play with help from Noah Cook, but Meadow Lake sealed the game with an empty-net goal from Ashton McIntyre in the final seconds.

The Pontiacs fired 25 shots on goal, while Meadow Lake generated 32.

Pontiacs Respond at Home

The teams met again on Sunday, March 8, and this time Bonnyville delivered a statement performance, winning 6–3 on home ice.

Cadrin led the way early, scoring twice in the first period with assists from Dyson Roy and Brayden Labant to give the Pontiacs a 2–0 lead.

Meadow Lake cut the lead to one early in the second, but Bonnyville answered back quickly. Roy scored on the power play, and Labant added another shortly after to make it 4–1.

The Broncos continued to push back, scoring late in the second and again early in the third to narrow the gap.

However, Bonnyville regained control with goals from Labant and Roy, securing the 6–3 victory.

The Pontiacs generated 41 shots on goal in the win.

Looking Ahead

Following the weekend split, the Pontiacs and Broncos will meet again next weekend.

The teams will face off in Meadow Lake on Saturday, March 14, before returning to Bonnyville for Game 2 on Sunday, March 15 at 6:30 p.m. at the RJ Lalonde Arena.

With the series tightening up, the Pontiacs will be looking to build momentum in front of their home fans.
