Wainwright RCMP Seize Fentanyl, Cocaine and Firearm in Drug Bust
Two Wainwright residents are facing serious drug trafficking charges after RCMP executed a search warrant on a suspected drug house earlier this month.
Investigation began with proactive patrols
According to RCMP, proactive patrols in December 2025 flagged unusually high pedestrian traffic and frequent vehicle activity at a home in Wainwright. Some of the vehicles were suspected to be stolen.
Police say the activity was consistent with drug trafficking, prompting further investigation and the eventual execution of a search warrant on Feb. 5, 2026.
Drugs and firearm seized
During the search, officers seized:
▪️ 23 grams of fentanyl
▪️ 22 grams of cocaine
▪️ 9 grams of methamphetamine
▪️ A variety of prescription narcotics
▪️ Other prescription medication
▪️ Drug paraphernalia consistent with trafficking
▪️ One firearm
Two residents were arrested at the scene.
Charges laid
Shane Comerford, 46, and Megan Atwood, 40, both of Wainwright, have each been charged with:
▪️ Possession for the purpose of trafficking fentanyl
▪️ Possession for the purpose of trafficking cocaine
▪️ Possession of a prohibited weapon
Comerford is also charged with breach of a firearms prohibition order.
Both accused were brought before a justice of the peace and remanded into custody. They are scheduled to appear in the Alberta Court of Justice in Wainwright on Feb. 19, 2026.
RCMP speak out
“Thanks to the diligent work of Wainwright RCMP members we were able to raid a drug house within our community,” said Sgt. Micheal Miller, Detachment Commander of the Wainwright RCMP. “Homes such as this are burdens on a community and are often associated with stolen property and weapons. We will continue our efforts to spot these criminal hotspots and encourage the public to contact the detachment, or Crimestoppers, should they see any suspicious activity.”
