Semi-truck driver charged in fatal collision outside Kitscoty
A semi-truck driver has been charged following a fatal collision on Highway 16 near Kitscoty that claimed the life of a 29-year-old Vermilion man.
RCMP say Maninder Dhaliwal, 32, of St. Albert, was arrested on Jan. 20 after an investigation into the crash.
Dhaliwal is charged with:
- Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing death
- Criminal negligence causing death
Police say the investigation was assisted by the Eastern Alberta District Crime Reduction Unit and St. Albert RCMP.
Dhaliwal was brought before a justice of the peace and released on conditions. He is scheduled to appear in Alberta Court of Justice in St. Paul on Feb. 12.
Background
Kitscoty RCMP were called to a serious collision involving a semi-truck and a car on Highway 16 on Jan. 20, at approximately 8:49 p.m.
The driver of the car, a 29-year-old man from Vermilion, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Highway 16 westbound between Range Road 30 and Range Road 25 was closed for several hours while police conducted their investigation.
RCMP extended condolences to the family and friends of the victim.
