School Buses Cancelled Across the Lakeland as Heavy Snow Continues
Near zero visibility and heavy snowfall have forced widespread school bus cancellations across northeastern Alberta this morning.
Multiple school divisions serving Cold Lake, Bonnyville, St. Paul, Lac La Biche, Elk Point and surrounding areas have cancelled buses for February 17. Schools remain open.
Bus Cancellations – February 17, 2026
▪️ East Central Francophone – All school buses cancelled for the day due to near zero visibility.
▪️ Lakeland Catholic School Division – Buses cancelled this morning due to the storm. Parents are advised to check the bus app later today for updates. Schools remain open.
▪️ Northern Lights Public Schools (NLPS) – All buses cancelled today (02/17/2026). Schools remain open. Parents are asked to inform their child’s school if they will be absent.
▪️ St. Paul Education Regional Division – All buses cancelled today. Schools remain open.
Parents are encouraged to check directly with their school division for the most up-to-date information.

Heavy snow continues across the Lakeland.
Total snowfall accumulations of 15 to 25 cm are expected, with some areas possibly reaching 30 cm. Snow is forecast to taper off this evening.
Travel conditions are challenging and may significantly impact rush hour traffic. Visibility remains poor in open areas.
Drivers are urged to prepare for quickly changing conditions, allow extra time for travel, take frequent breaks and use caution while clearing snow.
