Free Willy Goes Wild as Avalanche Roll to a Big Weekend
Two big wins for the U18 Avalanche this past weekend, winning in Wainwright on Saturday by a 9–3 score, then coming home Sunday to knock off Irma 3–1.
It was a monster weekend for Braylee “Free Willy” Lesyk, who is now tied for the league lead in scoring. Free Willy lit the lamp six times against Wainwright on Saturday, then added another two goals on Sunday versus Irma.
Brendan “Buzz Saw” Kadutski had himself a night on Saturday as well, chipping in with a goal and five assists, then adding another assist on Sunday. “Wild Wyatt” Fontaine followed suit with a goal and four assists on Saturday, plus an assist in Sunday’s win. Tristan “Bob Cat” Brousseau also found the back of the net both nights, scoring one goal in each game.
Anton “A-Bomb” Braithwaite added a couple of assists on Saturday, while Timmy “The Train” Cardinal, Remington “Steel” Reynolds, Morris Amyotte, Bronsen “Bronko” Riley-Brock, and Kaysen “Dynamite” DeMossiac all chipped in with helpers. Between the pipes, Drayden “The Wall” Skakun and Owen “Ollie the Goalie” Grykuliak split the goaltending duties.
The U15 Avalanche ran into a tough one at home Saturday, falling 6–2 to the top team in the Tier 2 East Division, the Cold Lake Ice. Jaxon “Magic” Marcoux scored both Avalanche goals, while William “Billy Bob” Ballas picked up two assists. Hudson “The Bull” Brousseau also added an assist.
The U13 Avalanche hit the road Sunday for a long haul to Wabasca, but it was worth the miles as they skated home with a 6–4 win. Jase “The Jackal” Malo led the way with four goals, while Grayson “Big Bang” Koppang buried the other two. “Hurricane Kael” Large had a couple of apples, with Stetson “Shack” Reynolds and Thomas “The Tank” Morris each adding an assist.
The U11 Avalanche were flying high Saturday at home, knocking off St. Paul 12–7. Cohen “Big Horn” Brousseau was unstoppable, scoring eight goals and adding two assists. Damian “Fog Horn” Ockerman had a goal and an assist, while Gavin “The Badger” Brousseau, Landon “Lights Out” St. Arnault, and Mason “Mini-Wheels” Weir each scored. Brady “The Bulldozer” Heathcote and “Sir Winston” Ung chipped in with assists.
On Sunday, the U11s travelled to Marwayne and came up short in a 7–3 loss. Big Horn scored twice, while his younger brother The Badger added the other Avalanche marker. Mya “The Magnificent” Lorenson picked up an assist, and goaltender Tydis Whiskeyjack Cardinal did a great job behind the mask all weekend.
Looking ahead, the A.G. Ross Arena will be a busy place this coming weekend, hosting the annual Ronald McDonald House Winter Classic. The U9 Avalanche will be competing in this fantastic fundraising event.
