In Loving Memory: Yolande Denise Marie MacMillan – Northern Lights Funeral Home
Yolande Denise Marie MacMillan
July 27, 1943 – December 10, 2025
With deep sorrow, our family shares the news of the passing of our beloved Mom/Memere, Yolande MacMillan on December 10, 2025 in Bonnyville, Alberta at the age of 82 years.
Mom/Memere was a dedicated nurse/O.R. technician for 48 years. She was selfless in caring for others and a strong advocate for her patients’ care. Her favourite position was the maternity ward. She loved babies. When she turned 50 years old, she went back to school to upgrade and graduated as a registered nurse. She preferred permanent 12-hour night shifts because there NO BOSSES around and more days off.
Mom/Memere was born and raised a farm girl in St. Paul, Alberta. She was always the first one called to help, whether it be to butcher a beef, work the fields or bring the cows in for milking.
When not working as a nurse, her passion was gardening. 300 hills of potatoes was not uncommon, she didn’t like leftover seed potatoes. One more row!
Mom was very independent. If something needed to be done, she was on it – picking rocks, planting 100 pine trees or clearing 2 acres of brush. She waited for no one. She did not like conflict and would avoid it all costs. She could be stubborn to a fault in her beliefs and decisions. You always knew where she stood.
She needed no one’s permission to live her life. Once a bridge was burned with Mom, that was it!
She lived on the family homestead for 42 years. Mom sold it to be closer to her daughter in Bonnyville.
Left to cherish her memory are her children: Wanda Ackert and James (Patsy) MacMillan; grandchildren: Michael (Amanda) MacMillan, Cordell (Shaunna) Ackert, Jenna MacMillan (Matthew), Paul (Kim) MacMillan, and Colin (Monica) MacMillan; great grandchildren: Carter MacMillan, Clara MacMillan, and Samuel Ackert; siblings: Louise Plante, Susanne Robinson, Diane Shlacter, Doris Bodnar, and Pierre Champagne.
Yolande was predeceased by her husband: Benjamin MacMillan; parents: Jacques and Marthe Champagne; brother: Roger Champagne; sister: Denise Zellweger.
In lieu of flowers please donate to a charity of your choice.
