Vermilion Lions Club and Lakeland Fire Students Fill 370 Sandbags for Local Businesses
The Vermilion Lions Club teamed up with Fire students from Battalion 28 of Lakeland College’s Emergency Services Technology programme to fill and deliver 370 sandbags during a windy afternoon on Oct. 25. The sandbags were distributed to several Vermilion businesses, including the Vermilion Co-op Gas Bar, Shell Service Station and the Vermilion Truck Wash.
Community Support Makes the Project Possible
The annual project relies on donated materials, with this year’s bags and sand provided by Lion Ben Bykowski and Vermilion Ready Mix Concrete. Their contributions allow the Lions Club to construct and sell sandbags each year, with proceeds supporting a range of community projects and initiatives throughout Vermilion.
A Tradition of Teamwork
The sandbag effort has become a longstanding community tradition. Previous years have seen support from groups such as the Marauders Football Club and local hockey teams. This year, the involvement of Lakeland College Fire students brought added energy and teamwork to the event, continuing the project’s legacy of hands-on community service.
Sandbags Now Available for Purchase
The Lions Club extended its thanks to all individuals and organisations that made this year’s fundraiser possible. Sandbags can be purchased locally at:
▪️ Vermilion Co-op Gas Bar
▪️ Shell
▪️ Vermilion Truck Wash / Fas Gas Plus
Proceeds continue to support Lions Club initiatives across the community.
