Break & enter in Derwent leads to several charges: Vermilion RCMP

A 37-year-old man is facing several charges after police received reports of suspicious activity in the hamlet of Derwent.

Vermilion RCMP got a call just after 8:00AM on Friday, Nov. 1, about an individual going door to door in the community southwest of Elk Point.

Mounties attended and located the vehicle driven by the suspect, which had been reported as stolen.

With help from Police Dog Services, officers located and apprehended the suspect at a nearby residence.

Police also searched and found break-in tools.

Michael Racicot, a 37-year-old male, has been charged with the following offences:

  • Break and enter into a residence with intent
  • Possession of property obtained by crime over $5000
  • Possession of property obtained by crime under $5000
  • Possession of instrument for copying credit card data
  • Possession of identity document
  • Possession of break in instruments

Racicot was taken before a Justice of the Peace and was remanded into custody.

He is scheduled to appear on Monday, Nov. 18, at the Alberta Court of Justice in Vermilion.
