The commemorative teepee which stands beside the Lac La Biche RCMP Detachment was lit on fire late Monday night as part of an apparent arson.

Police are investigating following the report at 11:15 p.m last night, as Lac La Biche Fire Department, as well as Mounties with fire extinguishers, quickly stopped the blaze.

“The teepee was a gift from the Beaver Lake Cree First Nation Community and a proud symbol of the partnership established over the years between the Lac La Biche RCMP and the members of the indigenous communities they serve,” Lac La Biche RCMP said on Tuesday morning in a press release.

Police say that RCMP Forensics Team and fire investigators have secured evidence from the scene. The investigation is ongoing.
