Three Arrested in Connection with Multiple Stolen Vehicles and Firearms in Cold Lake First Nations

On September 1, 2024, Cold Lake RCMP received information on the location of a stolen vehicle.

Cold Lake RCMP officers attended a residence on Cold Lake First Nations and located the stolen vehicle behind the residence, along with two other stolen vehicles. One of the stolen vehicles contained a loaded shotgun with various magazines and ammunition.

Through investigation, officers determined that the suspects were still inside the residence. With the assistance of Cold Lake Police Dog Services and the Emergency Response Team, containment was set up in the area.

Entry was made inside the residence by the Emergency Response Team, and arrests were made without incident. While inside the residence, officers observed firearms in plain sight. The residence was held for a search warrant, resulting in the recovery of numerous firearms, both prohibited and non-restricted, along with ammunition and firearm magazines.

Klody Cardinal (19) was charged with the following:

  • Resist/obstruct peace officer;
  • Possession of property obtained by crime over $5000 x 3;
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm x 2;
  • Unauthorized possession of a prohibited weapon while unauthorized;
  • Fail to comply with release order condition x 2;
  • Unauthorized possession of prohibited weapon or restricted weapon;

Matthew Francois (31) was charged with the following:

  • Resist/obstruct peace officer;
  • Possession of property obtained by crime over $5000 x 3;
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm x 2;
  • Unauthorized possession of a prohibited weapon while unauthorized;
  • Unauthorized possession of prohibited weapon or restricted weapon;
  • Weapons possession contrary to order;

Shayleen Moyah (25) was charged with the following:

  • Resist/obstruct peace officer;
  • Possession of property obtained by crime over $5000 x 3;
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm x 2;
  • Unauthorized possession of a prohibited weapon while unauthorized;
  • Unauthorized possession of prohibited weapon or restricted weapon;
  • Weapons possession contrary to order x 3;

Cardinal was brought before a justice of the peace and remanded into custody. He will be appearing in the Alberta Court of Justice in Cold Lake on September 11, 2024.

Francois was brought before a justice of the peace and remanded into custody. He will be appearing in the Alberta Court of Justice in Cold Lake on September 11, 2024.

Moyah was brought before a justice of the peace and remanded into custody. She will be appearing in the Alberta Court of Justice in Cold Lake on September 11, 2024.
