Shelter in place domestic kidnapping related; suspect not a threat to public: RCMP

Labour Day’s shelter-in-place near CFB Cold Lake and the Cold Lake Golf & Winter Club was kidnapping related, Cold Lake RCMP told Lakeland Connect.

The file stemmed  from the Bonnyville RCMP detachment.

On Monday, a shelter-in-place had certain Cold Lake residents told to stay inside and lock their doors until approximately 12:48PM.

In a followup from the Monday press release, the suspect walked off with a firearm towards the base in the bush threatening to shoot members, RCMP said.

Police set up containment and issued the shelter-in-place north of Kingsway, west of 62 Street, south of Township Road 632, and east of Range Road 424.

Emergency Response Teams along with Police Dog Services went to track the suspect.

The firearm was located, but the suspect was not. The suspect was believed to have been picked up by someone, police said.

Cold Lake RCMP say the suspect is known to police, not local, and not a threat to the public.

The investigation continues and attempts are being made to locate the suspect.
