Council approves summer community grants, sponsorships: City

At a meeting this week, Cold Lake City Council approved the recommendations of the Community Grant Advisory Committee for the July 2024 intake for the Community Recreation, Art, Culture, and Heritage Investment Grant program. Also approved were three funding requests directly considered by Council.

Approved were the following grants under the Community Recreation, Art, Culture and Heritage Investment Grant program:

  • 4 Wing Cold Lake Base Fund (PSP) – $2,625 for the 2024 Volksmarch and Oktoberfest
  • Filipino Association of Bonnyville and Cold Lake Alberta – $4,000 for 2024 Volleyball and Basketball tournaments
  • Special Olympics Lakeland – $2,000 for a Bocce tournament
  • Wild North Eclectic Society – $5,000 for the 2024 Summer Rush and Punk in the Patch events

These approvals brought the 2024 expenditures under the Community Recreation, Art, Culture, and Heritage Investment Grant program to a total of $192,825 out of its $250,000 budget.

At the same meeting council also considered several sponsorship and grant opportunities directly, making the following approvals:

  • Bonnyville Indian-Metis Rehabilitation Centre – $1,500 as a silver sponsorship for the 1st Annual Walk 4 Wellbriety Walk-a-thon event in Bonnyville
  • APEGA Lakeland Branch – the cost of 4 entries at $125 each and a $250 prize package for the 2024 APEGA Lakeland Branch Golf Tournament
  • Village of Pierceland – $500 donation and the cost of councillors’ entry fees, should they be able to participate in the 2024 Pierceland Golf Tournament at $100 each.
