Man arrested after threatening homeowner with fake gun during break and enter in Cold Lake

A Canada Day break-in has seen an arrest from the Cold Lake RCMP detachment who was wanted on a nation-wide warrant.

Police were called to a break and enter in progress on July 1 at a Cold Lake residence. The homeowner did not know the suspect.

RCMP said on Thursday that the homeowner was threatened with an imitation handgun.

Leonard McGillis, 59, a resident of Red Deer, has been charged with the following offences:

  • Robbery with an offensive weapon;
  • Breaking and entering a residence;
  • Mischief under $5000 dollars;
  • Theft under $5000 dollars;
  • Uttering threats;
  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose;
  • Pointing a firearm;
  • Weapons possession contrary to order (x2).

McGillis was wanted on an outstanding Canada wide warrant for a parole violation.

McGillis was brought before a justice of the peace. McGillis was remanded into custody and will appear at the Cold Lake Alberta Court of Justice on July 10, 2024.
