Thermal Cup renews oil companies on-ice rivalry for Kidsport

Bragging rights will be battled for between the big four oil companies, all to raise money for charity.

It’s the Thermal Cup, which has grown substantially this year, in the epic clash between Canadian Natural, Imperial, Strathcona Resources, and Cenovus, happening on Saturday at the aptly named Energy Centre.

The hockey tournament is all the impetus to help fund local Kidsport chapters in Bonnyville, Cold Lake, Wood Buffalo, Lloydminster, St. Paul, and Vermilion.

Each company has their teams made up and will play a round-robin starting at 12:30pm. Depending on results, there will be a “B” Final and then the Thermal Cup championship.

With major sponsor support, there is an online 50/50 with jackpot worth over $10,000 thus far.

After the hockey finishes up Saturday night, Clayton Bellamy will play an intimate show at the VIP Lounge beside the Cenovus Energy Arena.

It’s $20 a ticket per adult, with kids getting in free, and food included. They can be purchased at the door.

During the event, there will be silent auction items up for grabs with over $10,000 given in donations, plus on-ice games like Shoot to Score for $500 and Chuck-a-Puck.
