Rural Renewal Stream program running strong

The Rural Renewal Stream program has taken off, bringing jobs and workers together in the Cold Lake community.

Since the program started receiving applications in May, there have been 113 worker endorsement letters sent out, and 220 job postings from 121 approved workplace applications.

“It’s been a great opportunity to help fill some jobs that have been otherwise difficult to fill,” said Mayor Craig Copeland. “We are seeing people come to our community, and this program has helped to get people connected.”

Some communities in northern Alberta have recently had to put a pause on the program, to give them time to catch up on the hundreds of applications they have received.

“Our program is still open and running,” said Copeland. “I know our team has been working very hard at making sure the applications are being looked at as quickly as possible, so thankfully we haven’t hit that kind of backlog yet.”

The Government of Alberta has authorized the City of Cold Lake to operate the program until 2025, at which point the City’s program will be audited before the possibility of extending the program may be offered.
