Denell Anderson recieves Baseball Alberta Wally A. Footz Builders Award

This year’s Baseball Alberta’s Wally A. Footz Award recipient is Dennell Anderson from Elk Point. The award is presented annually by Baseball Alberta for outstanding efforts in structure, promotion and development of amateur baseball in Alberta, as such, Dennell is the perfect recipient.

Dennell has been active with baseball in the Lakeland area for the past 20 years. She has coached at every age category of baseball from U7 Rally Cap to U18 and has been president of the Elk Point Minor Ball Association for the past decade.

On top of her presidential duties for Elk Point, Dennell is also the President of the Lakeland Minor Ball league, which includes baseball and softball divisions and stretches from Lloydminster to Cold Lake to Kikino and down to Vermilion.

Dennell has been a key figure in bringing a half dozen provincial championships host weekends to the area. Throughout the ball season, Dennell can be found at the baseball field numerous times a week. She is always doing something to help the local community upkeep their fields; from whacking weeds to filling gopher holes or repairing fences on top of being a field crew member repairing the batter’s boxes and pitching mounds. Dennell had meant so much to the community that when a new U13 field was built, it was named Anderson Field in recognition of the countless volunteer work she has done to support and build the game of baseball.
