Lac La Biche RCMP arrest man that triggered shelter-in-place

Police have released more details and charged a man after residents of Beaver Lake Cree Nation were told to shelter-in-place on Saturday.

Lac La Biche RCMP have charged 25-year-old, Beaver Lake First Nation resident, Quinten Wyatt Cardinal, with:

  • Careless use of a firearm
  • Discharge use of a firearm
  • Possession of a prohibited weapon
  • Possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose

Police said they received a weapons complaint just after 9:30am on Saturday, Nov. 18. When RCMP responded, he fled on foot with a gun into a wooded area.

That’s when RCMP issued the shelter-in-place.

The search was extensive, using Police Dog and Air Services attended the area in attempts to locate the male, but were unsuccessful. He was found on Sunday and arrested. 

Cardinal was taken before a Justice of the Peace and was released.  His next court date is set for Dec. 11, 2023, at the Alberta Court of Justice in Lac La Biche.
