$23K approved in Recreation, Arts, Culture and Heritage grants
Cold Lake City Council approved three grants the Community Grant Advisory Committee recommended during its 2023 fall intake.
The committee reviewed five applications made under the City of Cold Lake’s Community Recreation, Arts, Culture and Heritage Investment Grant Policy. In reviewing the grant criteria, the committee recommended that three of the grants had met the established criteria and should be forwarded to council for approval. The grants totaled $23,000. Of the two that were not recommended, the committee decided that one application provided insufficient information and another was ineligible for the program.
The Community Recreation, Arts, Culture and Heritage Grant has 11 funding streams available to not-for-profits in the City of Cold Lake. Some grant streams are also available to for-profit businesses, individuals, neighbouring First Nations communities, and organizations in Wards 5 and 6 of the M.D. of Bonnyville. The grants are targeted towards organizations and businesses that have programs or events which celebrate, enhance or preserve the community’s heritage, provide recreational opportunities, artistic endeavors, or host events that provide an economic boost to the City and the surrounding region.
Approved under the 2023 fall intake of the Community Recreation, Arts, Culture and Heritage Investment Grant Policy are the following applications:
- The Age Friendly Cold Lake Society: $10,000 under the Community Incentive Grant stream in support of the 4th Annual Ice Fishing Tournament.
- The Lakeland Multicultural Association: $10,000 under the Community Incentive Grant stream in support of its 6th Annual Diwali Night event.
- The Wild North Eclectic Society: $3,000 under the Arts, Culture and Heritage stream to support the Punk in the Patch event, to be held at the Reid Field House. This grant will be divided between in-kind support through facility rental, with the balance as a cash grant.
